Lost Separators
Separators are small elastic rings placed between the teeth to create space prior to fitting braces.  The majority of patients lose a separator during treatment. If a separator comes out before your next visit with us, follow these simple steps to replace it:

  • First, thread a piece of dental floss through the center of the separator.
  • Next, double the floss on both sides of the separator.
  • Hold the floss on both sides.
  • Carefully, slide the floss in the space, between the teeth, where the separator has come out.
  • Pull the separator through the space.
  • Keep your finger on top of the separator and gently slide the floss out of your mouth.
